From low confidence to a career in the classroom - Noorunnisa’s journey
Noorunnisa began her journey with Skills for Work in 2019 while unemployed and searching for a fresh start. At the time, she had limited formal qualifications, particularly in English and Maths, and lacked confidence in her academic abilities. With little experience in the education sector, taking the first step towards employment felt both challenging and uncertain.
Despite this, Noorunnisa was determined to create a better future for herself. With a strong interest in working with children, she set herself a clear goal - to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to secure a role in a school environment. Like many learners returning to education after some time away, she initially felt unsure of her ability to succeed, but she took that important first step by enrolling on Functional Skills English and Maths courses. As she progressed, she not only improved her core skills but also began to rebuild her confidence and belief in her own potential.
Alongside her core studies, Noorunnisa completed a range of accredited courses including Safeguarding, Creating an Inclusive Environment, Food Safety, and Infection Control and Prevention. These courses gave her a strong foundation of knowledge and helped her to better understand the responsibilities involved in supporting children and young people.
As her confidence grew, Noorunnisa progressed onto the Supporting Work in Schools (Teaching Assistant) Level 2 Award, where she developed key classroom skills and gained valuable insight into the education sector. Motivated by her success, she continued onto the Supporting Work in Schools (Teaching Assistant) Level 3 Certificate, further strengthening her knowledge, boosting her confidence, and significantly improving her employability.
Reflecting on her journey, Noorunnisa shared: “The courses helped me to believe in myself again. I never thought I would be able to return to learning, but with the support I received at Skills for Work, I have gained confidence and achieved skills and employment, both of which I am really proud.”
Through dedication, resilience, and a commitment to her learning journey, Noorunnisa successfully secured employment as a Classroom Assistant. Her story is a powerful reminder that with the right support and opportunities, it is possible to overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve your goals.
Noorunnisa’s journey is an inspiring example of how investing in skills and training can transform lives. From feeling unsure about returning to education to progressing into meaningful employment, she shows that positive change is possible and that others can achieve the same.
