Danuta Klurk – Building Confidence and a New Future

Danuta Klurk, aged 52, moved to the UK from Poland in search of a better life, but initially faced significant challenges. She was unemployed, felt isolated, and lacked confidence in her English, which made it difficult to connect with others and take the next steps in her journey. Unsure of where to begin, Danuta joined Skills for Work with the goal of improving her communication skills, building her confidence, and creating new opportunities for herself.

By enrolling on an ESOL Entry 3 course at Britannia House, Danuta began to rebuild her confidence in both her abilities and her future. The course not only supported her development in English but also introduced her to a welcoming and supportive environment where she could connect with others. Through group activities, cultural discussions, and wider learning experiences, she formed friendships, developed new skills, and began to enjoy learning again. Danuta now feels confident in taking her speaking and listening exam and is proud of how far she has come.

Her journey has had a profound impact on her wellbeing and outlook on life. Danuta now feels more confident, valued, and optimistic about her future. She plans to achieve her full ESOL qualification, progress to higher-level English courses, and secure a part-time job. Reflecting on her experience, she describes Skills for Work as more than just an educational provider, but a place that has helped guide her towards a better future and given her the confidence to take the first steps towards rebuilding her life.
